Although Jannik cannot predict exactly what the future holds for him, he knows that music will remain a major part of his life. He is also a gifted student and advanced from the 4th to the 6th grade soon after entering Island School. Jannik was home-schooled for a good part of his childhood in order to keep a schedule that accommodated his music. His daily piano and violin practices begin at 5:30 am and end at 7:30 pm, with school in between). Jannik now performs internationally and says he does not get nervous before performances, unless it is in front of an audience of 600 or more. A Kauaʻi resident and Island School 6th grader, Jannik started playing piano when he was six and by the age of eight had already won an international piano competition: the Stage 4 Kids competition in Hamburg, Germany. I hope that Alexandra continues to follow her passion and play the piano so that all of the world can hear her beautiful gift.Students from Island School on Kauaʻi feature 10-year-old piano prodigy Jannik Evanoff. We all know how much time and practice it takes to become a professional and when we see a young person who’s only been on this Earth a few years with such talent, it’s very special. In this case, Alexandra isn’t just a skilled pianist she is one of the best, regardless of age. But sometimes, a child with a rare gift emerges and completely blows everyone away. The piano skills that this little girl has at just 3 years old is impressive, even when she turns the music page she does it with such discipline and prestig. When we see kids, we don’t expect them to be at the same level as an older performer. It always amazes me to see children stepping on stage and performing just like an adult, or even better. Others extend that timeline to adolescence. Clinically, some say a true prodigy is someone who achieves professional mastery of a skill by age 10. Signs of prodigy-hood can be seen as young as 2 or 3-years-old. Some might include chess, or even sports. In fact, she won the entire competition with this piece. Typically, child prodigies emerge in math, language, art, and music. I know that it takes so much time and practice in order to perfect these numbers but Alexandra shows no signs of difficulty. Somehow, this young girl makes every single note seem easy. There’s José André Montaño, a 10-year-old blind pianist from Bolivia Kojo Roney, a 10-year-old drummer who had a concert residency last month in Brooklyn and Grace Kelly, 22, an alto. Her hands are moving so fast, that I can barely keep up. Just watch as she furiously glides over the keys with such passion. Alexandra is effortlessly playing ‘Concerto for Piano No. This particular clip is from the 2018 Grand Piano Competition.
